It’s official!!! Hawaii is now the 7th state to legalize civil unions or marriage equality in the United States! On Wednesday, February 23rd Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie signed SB 232 into law, providing same sex couples comparable rights to married couples. While it is not full marriage equality, its light years ahead of where we were last year when the ex-Governor Lingle (R) vetoed the same exact version of this bill.
Civil Unions in the Rainbow State will be legal starting on January 1, 2012.
We won’t give up the fight for full marriage equality until its law in the entire country, but this is great progress that we should all celebrate.
